The Zodiac  is an imaginary belt-shaped region in the heavens, 16[deg] broad, or 18[deg] broad, in the middle of which is the ecliptic, or sun's path. It is made up of and divided into 12 constellations or signs for astrological purposes.  In Western astrology the zodiac is represented as a circular diagram representing the 12 zodiacal constellations and showing their birth signs. 

There are traditionally twelve signs in all and depending upon the date of birth of an individual, a corresponding sign is allocated to that individual.  It is believed that individuals born under any one of the twelve signs will exhibit certain character traits which are associated with those signs.

Thousands of years ago China was ruled by a tyrannical leader. He ordered  the building of the  Great Wall, which hid the bodies of his workers and enemies. During these times a very old and wise Chinese Man had two possessions that he valued: his only son and his horse.

 

One day, the horse ran away. All the elders came to him saying ”How unfortunate it is that your horse has run away. ”The old man replied, “How do you know it is unfortunate?”

 

Days later his horse returned, bringing with it six other horses. Again the elders said,”How fortunate it is that you now have seven horses. Again he replied,”How do you know it is fortunate?”

 

That day the old Mans only son went for a ride on one of the horses,he fell off the horse and became crippled. Once more the elders said, ”How unfortunate it is that your son fell off the horse and cant walk.” Once more he replied, ”How do you know it is unfortunate?” The elders were very puzzled and left to contemplate.

 

The next day the Emperor’s men came to his town to round up all able bodied young men to finish building his wall. Surely finally the elders will understand his wisdom. They held council with each other, then returned and asked, that they would be fortunate to have him become Mayor of the town, as he was the wisest man in the land.

 

The old man threw up his hands in despair and said, ”How do you know it would be fortunate, I do not want the job!”

 

And he left. He knew the secret of fortune!
